Kingston Police are currently conducting a welfare check in the area of Portsmouth Harbour, and would like the area residents to know there is no threat to public safety.

The large police presence in the area began around 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2023, after officers received information that a person may have entered the water, according to police. Area residents noticed officers around the footbridge on Mowat Avenue, as well as in the general area of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.

“There may continue to be an increased police presence in the area, however, there is no risk to public safety,” Constable Anthony Colangeli said in an email to Kingstonist.
