No injuries in shed fire at Extendicare Kingston

There were no injuries and damage was limited to a small shed due to a fire at Extendicare Kingston, at the corner of Bath Road and Queen Mary Road, on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022.

“Fire crews responded to a structure fire earlier this afternoon at Extendicare on Bath Road. The fire started in a shed,” Kingston Fire & Rescue confirmed in a social media post. In total, three pumper trucks, one ladder truck and a command vehicle responded to the call at around 2:35 p.m.

Before fire crews arrived, Extendicare staff had already evacuated all residents. The fire was substantially kept under control by one person who watered it down using a garden hose on site, eyewitnesses said.

According to the Platoon Chief on scene, the fire damage was contained to the exterior of the building and there were no injuries.

In their post, Kingston Fire & Rescue made special mention of the staff at Extendicare, “for keeping the residents safe and their professionalism during the incident. Well done!”

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues and anyone with information on this fire is asked to contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660.
