Three people, and their pets, are uninjured after a house fire broke out early on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 in the 3300 block of Sydenham Road.

Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR) responded to the house fire at approximately 2:30 a.m. that morning, and received support on-site from the neighbouring department of South Frontenac Fire & Rescue. KFR remained on scene battling the fire until late Wednesday morning, and Sydenham Road remained closed between Loughborough Drive and Orser Road until about 10:30 a.m.

“The extreme cold night made the fire challenging for crews to fight, and they continue to monitor for hot spots,” said KFR in a statement on Wednesday morning. Damages to the log-cabin-style home are estimated at about $500,000.

The home was owned by the Halle family, and the loss of their place of residence and all their possessions is made even more difficult in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A fundraiser has been established for friends and community members to support the family as they regroup from the fire.
