The investigation into the large residential fire that broke out in the early morning on Thursday, Jul. 7, 2022, has now concluded, Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR) relayed just before 2 p.m.

According to the local fire department, the fire began on the west side of the residence, located in the 4000 block of Bath Road in Kingston’s west end. However, due to “extensive damage and structural instability,” the cause of the fire can not be determined, KFR said in a social media update.

The cost of damages caused by the fire is estimated at $375,000, according to KFR, who are reminding Kingston and area residents that “smoke alarms save lives,” as all occupants in the residence were able to exit the house and thankfully uninjured.

Kingston Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the scene of a residential fire in the 4000 block of Bath Road in the early morning of Thursday, Jul. 7, 2022.

Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR) responded to the west-end home at around 5:30 a.m. after receiving reports of visible flames and smoke. Shortly thereafter, Kingston Police closed Bath Road from Collins Bay Road to Coverdale Drive and it remained closed for several hours as firefighters responded to the blaze. Four pumper trucks and a number of other Kingston Fire & Rescue trucks responded to the call.

The roadway was reopened to vehicle traffic and pedestrians at around 9 a.m., though the eastbound lane continued to be restricted as firefighters remained on scene as of 11:30 a.m., with drivers being asked to remain cautious when driving through the area.

KFR has not yet provided information on the extent of the damage or on the cause of the fire. While the residents were home at the time the fire broke out, they were able to exit the home without injury, KFR relayed in an email. According to KFR, a Fire Prevention Officer is on scene investigating the fire. We will update this article if/when more details are available.
