Napanee man arrested after OPP K9 track leads to seizure of firearm


A Napanee man is facing multiple charges after fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle collision in Quinte West.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, Jun. 13, 2022, the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a hit and run collision in the area of Sidney Street and Hollandale Avenue in the City of Quinte West.
According to a release from the OPP, witnesses reported observing a male on a motorcycle rear-end a passenger van on Sidney Street. The driver of the motorcycle reportedly fled the scene on foot when officers arrived.
The accused was arrested a short time later with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine in the area of Kidd Avenue, according to the release. Police investigation revealed that the motorcycle involved was reported stolen in Leeds and Grenville County several years ago. A search led to the recovery of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, according to the OPP.
Ryan McManus, 30 years old from Napanee, has been charged with the following offences:
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – three counts;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- Driving while under suspension;
- Fail to remain;
- Fail to report accident;
- Careless driving; and
- Drive motor vehicle, no plates
McManus was held in custody and appeared in court on Tuesday, Jun. 14, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
