Napanee company’s eco-friendly fire suppression product verified by UL

Napanee-based FireRein has announced that their product Eco-Gel™ has been recognized and verified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) for the suppression of Class A and Class B fires.

According to a release from FireRein, Eco-Gel™ is the world’s only certified 100 per cent bio-based water additive for firefighting and fire prevention. A global safety science leader, UL Verification is an objective, science-based assessment that confirms the validity and accuracy of product claims by way of rigorous, testing, inspections, and independent assessments, including live-fire testing, according to the release.

“This is a significant milestone for FireRein as we now have UL recognition for performance. Eco-Gel™ is certified 100 per cent bio-based by UL Environment and the USDA Bio Preferred program, making Eco-Gel™ the safest product available to the Fire Service and Industry,” said Quincy Emmons, President and Co-Founder of FireRein.

FireRein was founded in 2012 by a group of firefighters who understand firsthand the necessity for products to be safe for both firefighters and the environment, according to the release. What originally started as a plan to build innovative firefighting equipment quickly turned into something more when the team discovered the ‘green’ products being used by firefighters still contained toxic ingredients that had harmful consequences to the environment and to firefighters themselves, the company stated.

Partnering with academics and the science community, FireRein created a 100 per cent bio-based, nontoxic firefighting agent that sticks to where it is applied, making Eco-Gel™ not only a safer firefighting agent, but one that, the company stated, outperforms current foams as well.
