Multiple weapons seized after search warrant executed in Kingston’s Rideau Heights neighbourhood

An individual with a lengthy record has been arrested and charged with various weapons-related charges after officers with the Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant, according to Kingston Police.

In a press release on Friday, Mar. 15, 2024, Kingston Police said that the search warrant was executed “at a residence in the area of Maccauley Street and Montreal Street,” around 3:40 p.m. the day prior.

“During the search, a sawed-off shotgun, modified air pistol, and other miscellaneous weapons were located and seized,” police said.

According to police, at the time of the arrest, the accused person was on two release orders with Kingston Police for theft under $5,000 (two counts), possession of break-in tools (two counts), possession of stolen property (two counts), breach of probation (three counts), breach of a release order, and breach of an undertaking. Further, police said, the accused has also been been charged with theft under $5,000 by the Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

As a result, a 39-year-old who “resides locally” was charged with:

  • Possession of a restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of weapons dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of a firearm without holding a licence

Police said the accused individual was held for a bail hearing scheduled for today, Friday, Mar. 15, 2024. Police did not release the name of the accused individual, nor did they disclose the results of that bail hearing. Kingstonist has inquired with Kingston police on both of those matters, and this article will be updated if/when more information becomes available.
