MPP Kramp announces COVID-19 funding for H-L&A communities
The Ontario government is investing over $2.5 million in Hastings and Lennox and Addington County infrastructure projects to assist in local COVID-19 recovery.
Through the COVID Stream, Ontario will support municipalities as they build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure, according to a release from MPP Daryl Kramp, dated Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020.
MPP Kramp says the funding will help the municipalities build needed projects as the economy returns to health.
“These funds will mean a lot, especially in our smaller communities where the tax base is much smaller,” said MPP Kramp. “Each municipality was eligible for a minimum of $100,000 with allocations based on population size and the resulting need.”
In Lennox and Addington County the allocations are:
- Lennox and Addington County $236,311
- Loyalist $217,017
- Greater Napanee $189,955
- Addington Highlands $100,000
- Stone Mills $100,000
In Hastings County each municipality, including the County government itself, received $100,000, with Belleville receiving a larger amount, according to the release; one-third of Belleville is in the Hastings-Lennox and Addington riding of MPP Kramp with the balance in the Bay of Quinte riding of Hon. Todd Smith.
Bancroft, Deseronto, Centre Hastings, Hastings Highlands, Tweed, Marmora and Lake, Carlow/Mayo, Faraday, Limerick, Madoc, Stirling-Rawdon, Tudor and Cashel, Tyendinaga and Wollaston plus Belleville are the Hastings County communities. This funding is a part of Ontario’s approximately $250 Million dollar commitment to municipalities to assist with local infrastructure projects.
“This investment provides the predictable and stable infrastructure funding municipalities have asked for in the wake of COVID-19,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. “With this COVID Stream funding we are working directly with municipal partners to deliver community infrastructure.”
In accordance with Federal government guidelines all applications must be submitted no later than March 31, 2021 and projects must be completed by December 31, 2021.
