The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area (BIA) has announced the return of Movies in the Square, now in its 17th season. The free fun-filled outdoor movie experience takes place most Thursdays in the summer and is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

In a media release dated Thursday, May 16, 2024, the BIA released the 2024 line up of movies — a “diverse selection of films, offering a little something for everyone.”

  • June 27:      10 Things I Hate About You
  • July 11:        Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning
  • July 18:        Barbie
  • July 25:        The Italian Job
  • August 1:    A League of Their Own

The BIA shared a new feature this year — The Star Lounge. This is a reserved seating area providing attendees with an inflatable lounger, popcorn, and a drink. According to the release, this premium option costs $10 per person or $40 for a family of five. Attendees are encouraged to reserve their seats in the Star Lounge in advance of the film by visiting downtownkingston.ca, as space is limited.

“Movies in the Square is a favourite of so many,” said Sandi Griffiths, Events Manager with Downtown Kingston. “The addition of the Star Lounge adds a new dimension to the outdoor-movie-watching experience, and we hope our guests will enjoy the new cozy seating option.”

For those who prefer to bring their own seating, Movies in the Square remains free to attend, the BIA noted. Simply bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the film. All movies begin at dusk.
