On a day when fire seems to be on the minds of most Kingstonians, another residential fire sent three people to hospital.

The fire at a residence on Montreal Street appeared to be mostly contained to the back of the building. Submitted photo.

Kingston Fire and Rescue, Kingston Police, and Frontenac Paramedic Services all responded to reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of Montreal Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jun. 6, 2023. There, firefighters found a residence with flames, mostly contained to the back of the building, still active. Three people – a baby, a toddler, and their mother – were immediately rushed to hospital by paramedics. The condition of those three people is unknown at this time.

Kingston Fire and Rescue, who had responded earlier in the day to a fire at a home on Russell Street, remained on scene for several hours, tending to hot spots and ensuring the fire was out. All fire crews had cleared the scene by 4:05 p.m.

Kingstonist has reached out to Kingston Fire and Rescue and Kingston Police for further details on this incident, but no response was received by time of publication. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

Due to the fact that fire can spread very easily in the current weather and climate conditions, Kingston Fire and Rescue reminds all residents to monitor and maintain their smoke detectors, as well as of the home self-inspection safety checklist available on the City of Kingston website.
