OPP seeking public assistance to locate Sharbot Lake man

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) says it is now overseeing the investigation into the disappearance of a 59-year-old from Sharbot Lake.

As previously reported, the OPP began an investigation on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, after Kevin Camilleri was reported missing. Police say he was last seen on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, in the Sharbot Lake area. Our previous coverage stated he was last seen on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, and Kingstonist reached out to the OPP for confirmation of the change.

In response to Kingstonist inquiries, Acting Sergeant Aaron Miller, Communications Coordinator for the East Region OPP, said that Camilleri was last seen on November 9, despite earlier communications that indicated he was last seen on November 10.

Asked why this case is now being overseen by the Criminal Investigations Division, Miller responded that, while there is no indication of foul play in the case at this time, police cannot rule out the possibility of foul play being involved.

“No additional information can be released at this time,” Miller said. “As always, we would ask anyone with information into Kevin’s disappearance to call OPP or Crime Stoppers.”

Kevin is described by OPP as:

  • 59-years-old
  • 5’8″ (173 cm)
  • 177 lbs (80 kg)
  • Medium build
  • Bald
  • Grey/black beard/goatee
  • Brown eyes
  • Believed to be wearing black jeans, black boots and a black t-shirt

“Officers from the Frontenac Detachment and Frontenac OPP Crime Unit continue to investigate, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch,” OPP said in a release. As a result, there will be an increased police presence in the Sharbot Lake area on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, including OPP Aviation.

“If you have had any contact with, or have any information regarding the whereabouts of Kevin Camilleri, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122,” OPP requested. “Investigators also want to hear from anyone with potentially relevant doorbell, dashcam or other video recordings from the days leading up to Kevin’s disappearance.”

If you wish to provide information but remain anonymous, you can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS) or submit a tip online at Crime Stoppers.
