An incident at Coffee Way Donuts in downtown Kingston led the arrest of a local man – who was then found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana over the legal limit.

The accused man entered the coffee shop at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. The man proceeded to reach behind the counter of the establishment in an attempt to use the phone. When a staff member indicated that the phone was not for public use, the accused man spit on the floor. He then began to walk out of the coffee shop, but not before kicking the door, breaking the glass in the door.

Police were called and responding officers located and arrested the accused man a short time later on Regent Street, according to a press release from Kingston Police. When searched, the accused man was found to be in possession of a zip-lock bag containing a large quantity of marijuana. The quantity of the drug was over the legal limit, police said. The accused man was then transported to Kingston Police Headquarters, and further investigation fund that the man had thrown a rock through a window on Stephen Street earlier in the day.

The 26-year-old Kingston man was charged with two counts of mischief and possession of over 30 grams of cannabis.
