Marijuana, tobacco seized at Joyceville Institution Assessment Unit
Packages containing contraband items were seized in the Assessment Unit at Joyceville Institution on Friday, August 23, 2019, at about 6:45 a.m.
The contraband seized included 152.15 g of marijuana and 43.85 g of tobacco. According to Correctional Service Canada (CSC), the seizure was the “result of the vigilance of staff members” and the goods seized have a total estimated institutional value of $19,500.
Police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
Smoking is prohibited in Joyceville Institution. The CSC introduced a complete smoking ban in all federal correctional institutions in 2008.
Additionally, CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.
