A local man has been arrested after he tried to break into the apartment of couple that were unknown to him before threatening the couple, as well as the responding police officers.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, the accused man began banging on the windows of an apartment near Montreal and Stephen Streets. The complainant and his fiancé were inside at the time, and the accused was unknown to them. The man was apparently looking for a female, whom the couple also didn’t know.
The complainant called the police, and the man began kicking the window, attempting to break in, while simultaneously trying to get the complainant to come outside.
When officers arrived at the address, they found the accused man in the laneway, yelling at the complainant through a locked glass door leading into the hallway of the building. The complainant was trying to calm the man down after the accused man had threatened to kill him or have him killed.
The man was arrested and found to be in possession of a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The man then threatened to kill both police officers, and the family of one of the officers.
The 37-year-old Kingston man is charged with attempted break and enter, possession of a controlled substance, three counts of uttering threats to cause death, and breach of recognizance.
