An inmate from Millhaven institution has died while in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

According to the CSC, Basil Borutski, 66, died on Thursday, Mar. 28, 2024, of apparent natural causes. At the time of death, Borutski had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which began December 6, 2017, for first and second degree murders.

As many across the country will recall, Borutski was found guilty of killing three of his former partners in one day in what was largely considered one of the most heinous domestic violence cases in Canada.

Borutski’s next of kin have been notified, according to the national correctional authorities.

In a media release, dated Tuesday, Apr. 2, 2024, the CSC stated that, as in all cases involving the death of an inmate, it will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
