A man from Marmora is facing charges after an incident in downtown Kingston that resulted in multiple vehicles being damaged.
According to Kingston Police, the incident took place on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019. At approximately 10:15 p.m., the accused man approached a vehicle in the 300 block of Brock Street, holding a bottle of wine in his hand. The man proceeded to throw the bottle at the windshield of the car, causing damage. As the man fled the scene, police were contacted.
As responding officers were searching the area, the accused man was observed by another witness in the area of Sydenham and Johnson Streets. That witness, who was driving a vehicle, was approached by the accused man, who struck the driver’s side mirror, again causing damage. As he walked away, witnesses observed the man banging on other vehicles.
The accused man was located by police in the middle of the intersection of Johnson and Sydenham Streets. When he saw police approaching, the man “took on an aggressive stance while yelling obscenities at them,” Kingston Police said in a press release on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019. Police noted the accused man appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
The accused man was arrested at approximately 10:28 p.m. and taken to Kingston Police Headquarters. While waiting to be booked into cells, the accused man kicked one of the officers in the hip, and was subsequently held in custody to attend a bail hearing at a later date.
The 28-year-old man from Marmora was charged with assaulting a peace officer, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and breach of probation.
