Man caught after breaking into vehicles faces six charges

Kingston Police are crediting “an alert citizen” for assistance in the arrest of a man who broke into vehicles on the 1000 block of King Street West.
Police responded to the area, just west of St. Lawrence College, at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 after receiving reports of a suspect breaking into vehicles. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes, according to a press release from Kingston Police, and located the accused man along the lake shore thanks to the assistance of the citizen.
When located, the accused was holding a needle with suspected cocaine, police said, however, the man was cooperative and arrested without incident. The man was found to be in possession of a makeshift object used for breaking into vehicles, and the ensuing investigation found that the man had entered two vehicles, breaking a window in one of them. The accused man has stolen various items including a cellphone and a GPS. A quantity of suspected cocaine was also found at the scene, police said.
The 29-year-old local man was charged with two counts of thefts, mischief, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in tools, and possession of a controlled substance.
