Kingston Police have arrested and charged a male following their investigation into a sexual assault in an apartment building elevator.
Police say that on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a female encountered the male accused, who the victim did not know, in the common area of an apartment building located in Kingston’s north end.
Police say that after entering an elevator, the assailant suddenly pinned the victim against the wall and groped her. The victim was able to push the accused off of her and fled the elevator as soon as it opened. The assailant left the area by taking the stairs back to the main floor and exiting the building.
Police responded, and after further investigation located and arrested the accused at approximately 4:55 p.m. near the intersection of Division Street and Benson Street. Police also learned that the accused was currently wanted for being unlawfully at large.
The male was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
