Maltby Centre: ‘Speaking to your child about Witnessing a Traumatic Event’
As a community, we have all been impacted by the tragic death of a child at Mother Teresa School. The therapists at the Maltby Centre have some suggestions to help children who have been exposed to a traumatic event.

“It’s important for children to know that expressing emotions is okay,” the Maltby Centre said in a release. “They need to know that their caregivers are open to a conversation, even if everyone is upset at a tragic event. A good place to start for caregivers is to identify their own emotions.”
The Center has created a brief guide: “Speaking to your child about Witnessing a Traumatic Event“.

The Maltby Centre is a 25-year-old non-profit organization that provides mental health and autism services to children and youth in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington. They are encouraging anyone who needs help to reach out to them. Learn more about their services on their website.
