Accreditation Canada recently awarded Maltby Centre with Accreditation with Exemplary Standing. This designation is the highest award possible through the health-care accreditation program.

Maltby Centre is the lead agency for child and youth mental health services in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A), as well as a leading provider of autism services for children, youth, and families, according to a release from the organization. The Accreditation Canada survey team spent four days visiting Maltby Centre office and classroom locations, evaluating their services against national standards.

Maltby Centre voluntarily participates in the accreditation process to improve the quality of services provided to clients and families, the organization stated. Though previously accredited, this was Maltby Centre’s first time going through the process with Accreditation Canada.

“Quality and safety are of extreme importance to us,” said Normandie Wragg, Executive Director at Maltby Centre. “These results demonstrate our commitment to quality improvement and providing evidence-based services to children, youth, and families in our community. Families can be assured that our mental health and autism services are of high quality with children at the centre of our approach. Our incredible staff team and community partners should also be so proud of this result – it’s a testament to the professionalism, skills, and dedication that they bring to their work every day.”

According to the release, accreditation involves assessing all of the programs and processes Maltby Centre has in place, both in mental health and autism services, to ensure they’re providing the best quality of care to clients and families. There are hundreds of standards and “Required Organizational Practices” that services are measured against. Surveyors assess these by touring facilities, reviewing documentation, observing client sessions, and meeting with staff, volunteers, clients, and families, according to the organization. Maltby Centre met 100 per cent of the national standards they were measured against, according to an Accreditation report.

“We participate in accreditation as a quality improvement effort,” said Cailin Scott, Manager of Quality Improvement, Accreditation, and Privacy at Maltby Centre. “Accreditation Canada provides us with a report on areas we are doing well in, as well as recommendations for improvement. We’re committed to continuous improvement because quality and safety matter to our clients and their families. We want to provide the best service that we can.”

Within the report, Accreditation Canada highlighted numerous strengths of Maltby Centre, with great focus on their commitment to people-centred care, according to the release.

Accreditation Canada has been helping health-care organizations improve their quality and safety for over 55 years. Maltby Centre said it will continue to work with Accreditation Canada on its quality journey.
