Those going about their daily business at the Kingston Centre yesterday afternoon may have noticed some commotion and police presence after a verbal altercation escalated and resulted in an arrest.

Just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, Kingston Police were called to one of the businesses within the Kingston Centre, where three males were involved in a heated verbal exchange. Upon police arrival, officers located and spoke with all three males, one of whom admitted to having consumed alcohol recently, Kingston Police said on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021. However, all three males were cooperative at the time, so police separated the individuals and told them to move along.

Believing the matter had been dealt with, police were about to leave the Kingston Centre when they were approached by a motorist who informed them of two males fighting. According to witnesses on the scene, both of the males were running around in the parking lot, and throwing fists at one another.

Officers placed one of the two males who continued fighting in the back of a cruiser while fellow officers arrested the other male, who fled from police as they approached. The male placed in the cruiser was let go following the arrest of the other male. Photo by Lucas Mulder.

Police once again approached the two males – two of the three involved in the earlier altercation – and the intoxicated male attempted to flee. That male was tackled by police, who took him into custody.

Police allowed the other male to leave on his own, and the intoxicated male was taken to Kingston Police Headquarters, where he was charged with public intoxication.
