Three parks in Loyalist Township have been shortlisted as possible locations for an off-leash dog park by the Loyalist Township Dog Park Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee.
According to a release from the Township, the shortlisted parks are Lakeview Park, 4565 Bath Road, Amherstview; Bath Park, 241 Church Street, Bath; and Centennial Park, 54 Old Wilton Road, Odessa.
To help inform the Committee’s recommendation to Council, the Committee and municipal staff will be hosting three in-person community drop-in consultations on:
- Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Odessa (Council Chambers, Township Office, 263 Main St., Odessa)
- Wednesday, Oct. 26, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Bath (Bath Fire Hall, 241 Church St., Bath)
- Thursday, Oct. 27, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Amherstview (Amherstview Community Hall, 177 Upper Park Dr., Amherstview)
At these drop-in consultations, members of the public can receive an overview of the project, demographic information on each community, along with the considerations needed for a dog park when reviewing potential locations, according to the release. The Committee will be present to receive feedback from the community before making their final recommendation to Council.
The Township encourages anyone that is unable to attend the consultations to share their feedback via a short survey which can be found at Loyalist.ca/DogPark. The survey is open until Thursday, Oct. 27 2022.
“It’s important for us to consider resident feedback when selecting the best location for the Loyalist Township Dog Park. Input received provides insights into the needs based on the personal experiences of those living in the community,” stated Loyalist Township Mayor, Jim Hegadorn. “If unable to attend, please complete the survey and forward the link for the survey to other Township residents interested in providing feedback on the potential location of the Loyalist Township Dog Park. Higher response rates will improve the data.”
According to the release, following the public consultations and survey closing, the Ad-hoc Advisory Committee will meet to review the public input and select one location for recommendation to Council.
