Lockdown ended at medium security unit of Collins Bay Insititution
The lockdown and search of the medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution has now ended, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The lockdown was put in place on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 after CSC staff seized a package containing contraband and unauthorized items, including large amounts of tobacco, marijuana, and crack cocaine. An exceptional search took place during the lockdown.
“A number of unauthorized items were found during the exceptional search,” CSC said in a press release on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. CSC would not expand on what those unauthorized items were.
Normal operations, including visits, have resumed at the institution.
