The medium security unit of Collins Bay Institution has been placed on lockdown and an exceptional search is taking place, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The lockdown was put in place at approximately 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, Jul. 2, 2019.
“The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so,” CSC said in a press release on Wednesday, Jul. 3, 2019.
Visits to the Institution have been suspended until the search is completed. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the Institution directly.
