Lockdown and search ended at Collins Bay Institution

The lockdown at the medium-security unit of Collins Bay Institution has now ended following the completion of an exceptional search, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The penitentiary had been placed on lockdown on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, following the seizure of a package containing contraband and unauthorized items. Additionally, a number of unauthorized items were found during the exceptional search, according to a press release from CSC.
“Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” the press release read.
