Local woman charged with weapon offences and assaulting police

A woman has been charged after an unprovoked attack on a male at a plaza at the intersection of Division and Concession Streets in Kingston.
At approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 the male victim contacted police from the plaza at the Division and Concession corner, according to a release from Kingston Police, dated Monday, Jan 11. 2021. Police say the female accused, who was at this location sorting through donation items outside of the plaza, had thrown a figure skate at the victim’s vehicle. The victim indicated that this was an unprovoked incident and that he did not know the accused, according to the release.
When they arrived on scene, police say they observed the accused screaming and swearing in the parking lot amongst the scattered donation items. Upon attempting to speak with her the accused approached the officer with a large piece of broken glass that she retrieved from the ground, according to the release. Police say she then approached the officer threateningly with the broken piece of glass while screaming obscenities.
According to the release, the accused threw down the piece of glass and retreated behind the plaza. Additional officers arrived and located the accused behind the plaza. Police say they attempted to diffuse the situation however the accused refused to speak with them and continued to walk away from the officers while screaming profanities at them.
At approximately 7:10 p.m. officers arrested the accused at which time she was subsequently handcuffed. Immediately after being handcuffed the accused kicked backwards injuring one of the officers, according to the release.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
A 51-year-old local woman was charged with assaulting a peace officer and two counts of assault with a weapon.
