Local woman arrested on warrant after police locate her children playing in a park

A local woman was placed under arrest after Kingston Police found she was wanted on an outstanding warrant after returning her children, who had been playing outside, at night, unsupervised, wearing only diapers.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, police received a call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing three young children walking on their own in the area of Cassidy Street and Montreal Street. According to a release from Kingston Police, officers attended the area and located the three children, ages 3, 6, and 7, playing in a nearby playground. Police said the children were only wearing diapers at the time of their discovery and had no clothes on.
After searching for a period of time, and with guidance from the oldest child, police were able to determine that the three children resided in an apartment building in the area and proceeded to take them back to their residence, according to the release. When the children opened the door to enter their apartment police saw their mother asleep on the couch.
Further investigation by Kingston Police officers revealed that the mother had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and she was ultimately arrested and taken into custody. Other family members were present in the residence and the children remained in their care, police said.
The 30-year-old local woman, who was arrested by officers on the strength of her outstanding warrant, was subsequently transported to police headquarters where she was later released on conditions with a future court date.
