Local SLC student dies following early Saturday morning crash

On Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at approximately 2:06 a.m., Kingston Police, along with the Kingston Police Traffic Safety Unit, Kingston Police Forensics Identification Unit, Frontenac Paramedics and Kingston Fire & Rescue responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Brock Street and MacDonnell Street.

Upon arrival of emergency services, crews attended to both drivers involved in the collision. Brock Street was closed between Toronto Street and Napier Street as well as MacDonnell Street between Johnson Street and Mack Street. One male driver was transported to hospital by paramedics. The extent of his injuries is unknown. The other driver involved was pronounced dead at the scene. Kingston Police have now identified the driver as Jessica D’Souza.

Jessica was a St. Lawrence College student who came to Kingston in 2019. A GoFundMe has been set up for D’Souza to help with costs to send her body back home to India. As of publication, the GoFundMe has over 500 donors, has surpassed its goal of $30,000 and continues to grow. If you do wish to donate or share the fundraiser, you can do so here.

Kingston Police have not commented or released any additional information pertaining to the collision as the investigation is ongoing at this time. More information is expected to be released at a later time. St. Lawrence College has also not released any statement as of publication. All roads were reopened just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022.
