Local man arrested for attempting to steal truck in downtown Kingston
Kingston Police are reminding citizens to lock their vehicles after a downtown resident exited his home to find another man behind the wheel of his truck.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Mar. 9, 2019 just before 6:45 a.m. Police responded to a downtown Division Street residence after receiving a call regarding the attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
The victim had been inside his residence and had started his vehicle automatically with the auto-start feature. Upon exiting his residence, the victim found the accused man sitting in the front driver’s seat and attempting to place the vehicle in gear. The accused male fled on foot at that time, but was located by police at approximately 7:21 a.m.
A 38-year-old local man was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
“Police are reminding the public to lock their car doors and either keep valuable items out of sight in the trunk or glove box or remove them from the vehicle entirely,” Kingston Police said in a press release. “These simple suggestions could help to reduce your risk of being a victim of theft.”
