A local individual has been arrested and charged in connection to an investigation into online child pornography.

According to a release from Kingston Police, members of the Kingston Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit made the arrest after an investigation revealed the individual was involved in writing child pornography and engaging in acts of bestiality.

“In late February 2024, investigators received a report of an individual engaging in sexual conduct online possibly involving young children. Through the course of investigation investigators were able to ascertain the individual’s identity and location in Kingston,” police stated.

“A further investigation revealed that the individual had been engaged in making written child pornography online. Additionally, investigators discovered the individual was involved in acts of bestiality and had distributed footage of these acts online.”

Earlier this week, on Wednesday, Mar. 6, 2024, a 36-year-old Kingston individual was arrested at a residence in the city’s east end. According to the release, the individual was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.

The individual is charged with one count of making child pornography and one count of bestiality.

In response to Kingstonist inquiries as to why the police are not naming the accused individual, Constable Anthony Colangeli, a Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police, explained, “We’re not going to release a name to protect the identity of potential victims as well as the integrity of the investigation.”

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

“This investigation has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services,” Kingston Police concluded.
