A 21-year-old from the Kingston area has passed away following a single vehicle collision just west of Morton, according to police.

Officers with the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of the collision, which occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 13, 2024. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ritz Road, Troy Lake Road, and Jones Falls Road, police reported.

Despite employing extensive life-saving measures — including the closure of area roads for the potential airlift of the motorcyclist by ORNGE — the driver was pronounced deceased on the scene, the OPP said in a press release late Wednesday night.

“OPP Collision Reconstructionists and members of the Traffic Collision Investigation Team continue to assist Leeds County OPP officers with the investigation,” police said.

“The intersection and immediate area will remain closed for several hours to allow for a complete and thorough investigation.”

The OPP would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, and are also requesting that anyone with possible dashcam footage of the collision/area around the time of the incident contact the Leeds Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

Police did not identify the deceased motorcyclist.
