Large power outage in west-end Kingston

Following reports of several bright orange and white flashes and loud bangs in the Collins Bay area on Tuesday at around 11:15 p.m., west-end Kingston experienced a large power outage overnight.

Affected areas included Canatara Court, Development Dr, Hudson Dr, Lincoln Dr, Acadia Dr, Hyde Cres, Citation Cres, Pimlico Pl, Henderson Court, Bayridge Dr, Percy Cres, Glen Castle Rd, Boxwood Dr, Barnsley Cres, Bourne Pl, Fisher Cres, Roosevelt Dr, Bath Rd and Vista Dr according to residents reporting in. Power was unaffected north of Lincoln Dr.

The exact cause was not confirmed by Hydro One but was related to a malfunction at the transformer station at Henderson and Glen Castle Rd. Kingston Fire and Hydro One crews were on site for much of the night. It is believed that nearly four thousand homes were without power, with street lights and traffic lights throughout the west-end also not functioning.

Power was restored at around 3:15 a.m.
