Lack of headlights leads to impaired driving charges for Napanee man

A Napanee driver is facing charges after officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with no lights on.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 28, 2022, the officers saw the vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Tyendinaga Township without its headlights on.

According to a release from the OPP, officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, who was showing signs of impairment. An approved screening device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was arrested and transported to the L&A County Detachment for further testing.

As a result, L&A County OPP have charged Dustin Lapenskie, age 32, of Napanee, Ontario, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

Lapenskie was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in April 2022. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Lapenski will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
