Update – Located: L&A OPP seek assistance to locate man wanted on over two dozen charges

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released the above photo and are requesting assistance in locating Tanner Sweet, who is wanted on over 20 charges.

According to police, the OPP have investigated multiple break-ins, vehicle thefts, and related crimes over the past few months.

“On October 10, 2023, a vehicle was taken from a residence on Highway 41 in Addington Highlands. Officers located the vehicle and arrested one individual at the scene. Two other occupants fled the scene. With the assistance of the East Region Emergency Response Team, one was arrested,” the OPP said in a press release on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023.

Now, the OPP are requesting public assistance to locate the third person, 29-year-old Tanner Sweet. Police described Sweet as weighing 185 lbs (84 kg) and standing approximately 6’3” (191 cm) tall, with a thin build, brown hair. The wanted person also has neck tattoo which reads “SWEET.”

Kingstonist has inquired with the OPP as to where Sweet is from, as well as whether police consider Sweet to be armed and dangerous. While no response was received by time of publication, the OPP did advise residents not to approach him.

According to the OPP, an arrest warrant for Sweet has been issued for more than two dozen offences under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Those charges include:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

“Investigators are encouraging Sweet to contact a local OPP detachment and speak with officers,” the OPP said.

Anyone who sees Sweet or has information on his location is encouraged to contact police immediately, either via 911 if urgent, or by contacting the OPP directly at 1-888-310-1122. Anyone with information who would like to remain anonymous is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).


Update (Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, 9:50 a.m.):

Late last month, the L&A OPP asked for public assistance to locate Tanner Sweet, who was wanted on over 20 charges including multiple break-ins, vehicle thefts and other property-related crimes.

According to a release dated Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, Kingston Police located Sweet and contacted the OPP, who arrived and transported the wanted individual to the detachment.

According to the OPP, Tanner Sweet, 29 years old, from Tweed, was charged with the following offences:

  • Six counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Two counts of operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Three counts of failure to comply with probation order
  • Break and enter a place – commit an indictable offence
  • Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Break and enter a place – with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule three substance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Three counts of theft under $5,000
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Theft over $5,000 of motor vehicle

Sweet was reportedly held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston.
