L&A OPP lay four impaired driving charges over long weekend

Four drivers have been charged by members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in impaired driving-related investigations since Thursday, Jun. 30, 2022.
The first incident took place at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jun. 30, 2022, when officers responded to a traffic complaint on Belleville Road in Tyendinaga Township.
According to a release from the OPP, officers conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Jeana Buikema, 42 years old, of Napanee, Ontario was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Minutes into the following day, on Friday, Jul. 1, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Jim Kimmett Boulevard in Greater Napanee.
According to the release, officers attended the location and spoke to the driver. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Paige Leybourne-Crook, 27 years old, of Napanee, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
About 15 minutes later, around 12:30 a.m. on Jul. 1, 2022, officers responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 401 eastbound in Tyendinaga Township.
OPP stated that officers conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Alexander Green, 32 years old, of Tyendinaga First Nation, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving while under suspension – two counts
On July 4, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers were on general patrol when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for Highway Traffic Act offences.
As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Michael Elson, 54 years old, of Tweed, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive – handheld communication device
- Driver fail to properly wear seat belt
- Fail to surrender insurance card
OPP said that all accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licences were suspended for 90 days, and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
