L&A OPP lay charges against two impaired drivers in same day

Twice on the same day, Lennox and Addington Ontario Provincial Police officers laid charges for impaired driving in the Greater Napanee area.

The first impaired driver was located in a parking lot in Greater Napanee and arrested after police conducted a sobriety test.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in a parking lot off of County Road 41 in Greater Napanee. According to a report from OPP dated Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, officers located an individual in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. 

During the investigation officers conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test. OPP say the driver was subsequently arrested and taken to L&A County Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert Officer.

As a result, Daniel Clement, age 47, of Loyalist Township has been charged contrary to the Criminal Code with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in January 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Clement will be responsible for all related fees and fines.

Later that same day, at 8:15 p.m., officers of the L&A County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound near the Greater Napanee Exit.  

A vehicle was travelling westbound on Highway 401 when it went off the roadway and came to rest in the ditch, according to a separate report from OPP, dated Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020. The sole occupant of the vehicle was not injured in the collision. OPP say during the investigation officers utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to L&A County OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have charged Trystan Lecuyer, age 20, of Gananoque contrary to the criminal code with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in January 2021. The accused persons licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Lecuyer will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
