L&A OPP charge two drivers in as many days for impaired driving offences

A Kingston resident and a resident of the Town of Greater Napanee are each facing charges related to impaired driving following two separate Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigations.

According to the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the OPP, on the afternoon of Friday, Mar. 8, 2024, the detachment received “a report of a person who was believed to be impaired attempting to drive away from a construction site” in the Village of Bath in Loyalist Township. The construction site was reportedly on Oakmont Drive, a new road off of Country Club Road that is not yet labelled on Google Maps.

Officers attended the scene and arrested the driver in question for impaired driving, police said in a press release on Monday, Mar. 11, 2024. As a result of the ensuring investigation, 24-year-old Dawson Robertson of Kingston was charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit

The OPP relayed that Robertson was released on an undertaking with a court date scheduled in early April. The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Robertson will face further licence suspension if convicted, and will be responsible for all fees/fines related to towing/impounding the vehicle.

Then, just after 5 a.m. on Sunday, Mar. 11, 2024, L&A OPP officers were dispatched to a collision on Fitchett Road near County Road 9. Police arrived on scene to find two people standing in the roadway with minor injuries, the OPP reported, and the vehicle had entered a ditch and collided with some trees before coming to a stop.

“Police arrested the driver for impaired driving,” the OPP said in the press release.

As a result of that investigation, 18-year-old Gavin Brooks of Greater Napanee was charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit

Brooks was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in early April. The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Brooks will receive further licence suspension if convicted, and will be responsible for all fees/fines related to towing/impounding the vehicle.
