Knife wielding man arrested following downtown fight

Police have arrested a 19 year-old man following an altercation downtown on Wednesday.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 2, 2020, police say an incident occurred involving the male suspect and another man outside of a downtown Kingston business. Police were contacted after witnesses observed the the two men fist fighting in a parking lot. During the fight the suspect was seen pulling out a knife and waving it threateningly towards the other man.

Police say they responded at 2:45 p.m. and located the suspect walking away from the scene. He was subsequently arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed a sheathed knife tucked into the waistband of his pants. Police were unable to locate the other man involved in the fight.

Police transported the suspect to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The 19-year-old local man was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and carrying a concealed weapon.
