Over the weekend, those downtown may have noticed some activity outside the arena on Tragically Hip Way. Kingston’s “Large Venue Entertainment Centre” was rebranded Slush Puppie Place, and new signage was in place before the Kingston Frontenacs took to the ice on Family Day Monday for the inaugural event under the new name.

Approved by Kingston City Council on Dec. 19, 2023, Slush Puppie Canada has entered into an agreement for the naming rights for Slush Puppie Place.

“Slush Puppie Canada is very honoured to enter into a business alliance with the City of Kingston, in partnership with the Kingston Frontenacs, for the next 15 years. Both entities have a strong association to everything hockey and everything Canadian… much like the Slush Puppie brand!” said Jean-Rock Beaudoin, president of Slush Puppie Canada.

According to a release from the City of Kingston, with philanthropy being one of the most important values for the company, Slush Puppie Canada Inc. invests in communities across the country through its various charitable initiatives and its sponsorships of sporting and entertainment events. With roots firmly established in the country since 1975, Slush Puppie Canada Inc. is “proud to produce the best-selling Slush in Canada,” the city said.

“It was a pleasure to help mark the official grand opening of Slush Puppie Place with a full crowd on Family Day! There is a long-standing connection between Slush Puppie and hockey, and we look forward to how this new partnership will contribute to a lively atmosphere in an amazing downtown venue hosting both Kingston Frontenacs hockey and lots of other great shows and events,” stated Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson.

The venue, previously named the Leon’s Centre (and the K-Rock Centre before that), has a seating capacity of 5,000 for sporting events and 6,700 for concerts. According to the release, it serves as the proud home of the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and annually hosts a multitude of exhilarating events, including concerts by global icons and thrilling sports spectacles.
