Kingstonist – Sold

April Fools, Kingstonist soldThere comes a point in time when we all have to face the music.  Unfortunately, Kingstonist’s song has been playing on repeat for quite some time, however we only bothered to soberly evaluate the future of the site around our 2nd birthday.  The recent addition of yet another Kingston-centric blog, as well as continued gains in our readership, which now averages above 500 unique visitors a day, led us down a dark path from which there is no turning back.

The initial journey saw us quietly shop around Kingstonist to various Canadian, and foreign-owned media conglomerates.  It didn’t take long before we were being courted and approached with bids, which was both flattering and extremely taxing on the nerves.  While financial details of the sale will remain private for the time being, we are pleased to announce that Kingstonist.com has been acquired by an up-and-coming Polish cable and telecom group (name withheld at their request).   UPDATE: Once the new team of editors and contributors are in place later this month, additional information will be forthcoming.

The sale came about considerably faster than any of us anticipated.  We are all still reeling from what this means for the site, and the local blogging community. There is still a considerable amount of uncertainty as to whether any of the volunteer contributors will be hired back.  We will provide updates as soon as we are permitted to do so.  For the time being, let me be the first to welcome our new owners and management team with a hearty: Prima Aprilis!

Special thanks to StarbuckGuy for today’s photo.

The timing of this announcement could have been better, but we simply did not want news to spread by others means. Like me, you probably have a lot of questions, but rest assured we will keep everyone in the loop.

I hate to put an end to all the fun, but due to the high volume of concerned messages we've received, I have to clear the air. We have not, nor are we interested in selling Kingstonist.com. April Fools on you if you. Sorry for the confusion, and now we'll rejoin the regularly scheduled programming.
