A local individual is facing assault charges after police were called to a residence on Amberdale Crescent over the weekend.

According to the release from Kingston Police, officers responded to the call in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jun. 23, 2024, regarding an assault that had just occurred at the residence in Kingston’s west end.

“On this date, the accused, while visiting their ex-partner’s residence, had fallen asleep on a chair in the main living area of the home. The accused, who had been consuming alcohol, was politely asked to leave the residence,” Kingston Police detailed.

“The accused, once awoken, was verbally aggressive toward the victim and their two children, who were also inside the residence.”

Police noted that while encouraging the accused to leave the residence, the accused person suddenly lashed out violently, striking the victim in the head with a container of paint. According to the release, one of the children, a teenager, came to the aid of the victim, however, the accused grabbed them and attempted to strangle them. As the victim and a second adult sibling attempted to thwart the attack, the accused reportedly struck the sibling in the face.

According to the release, the accused left the residence but continued screaming outside the home and banging at the front door before finally departing from the property on foot. At approximately 2 a.m., police located and arrested the accused in the area of Bayridge Drive and Hudson Drive.

“The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing,” police said.

A 63-year-old local individual was charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of assault.
