A domestic dispute in Kingston’s west end ended tragically, and with a female aggressor facing many charges after she attacked her partner and killed a kitten while doing so.

Kingstonist inquired with Kingston Police about the incident on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, having received information that an animal had been killed in an incident of intimate partner violence. On Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, Kingston Police issued a press release on the incident, stating that police responded to a report of domestic assault at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023.

According to police, officers arrived at the residence and “determined that a male and female had been engaged in a verbal argument which turned violent when the female threatened the male with bodily harm.”

“The argument continued to escalate resulting in the female picking up the couple’s small kitten and hitting the male in the chest with the kitten multiple times before throwing the kitten at him,” Kingston Police said.

“The cruelty to the kitten resulted in its death.”

Police said that the female then continued to throw items at the male, forcing him to leave the residence until police arrived.

The female aggressor, a 57-year-old woman from Kingston, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Killing/maiming/wounding/poisoning/injuring dogs/birds or other animals other than cattle
  • Breach of recognizance

The woman was transported to Kingston Police Headquarters and held for a bail hearing the following day. Police did not say what the results of that bail hearing were.
