Kingston Transit limits bus capacity, requests essential trips only
Kingston Transit is further adjusting availability in alignment with the city’s state of emergency declaration. Effective Mar. 28, 2020 bus capacity will be limited to 12 to 15 passengers, with every other seat marked as unavailable.
“Every other bus seat will be unavailable to passengers to practice safe physical-distancing,” said Kingston Transit in a release. “The limit on the number of passengers will continue until further notice.”
While the number of seats is being limited, Kingston Transit is not guaranteeing additional buses on routes.
“[We] will make every effort to deploy additional buses when capacity has been reached, but unfortunately this will not always be possible. Passengers should be prepared to wait for the next scheduled bus, should capacity be reached.”
Kingston Transit is urging residents to use transit for essential trips only, so that the reduced seats can remain available for those who need them. This change is effective until further notice.
Kingston Transit recently reduced service to running its Sunday schedule daily, while adding a shuttle from the Centre 70 Park & Ride to Kingston General Hospital. Recent changes have already resulted in numerous layoffs of Kingston Transit staff.
