#ygkChallenge: Third Crossing Open House

ygkchallenge, third crossing, cataraqui river, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Attend the Third Crossing Open House. On September 29th, The City of Kingston will be hosting their first open house at the La Salle High School pertaining to the Third Crossing. The drop-in style session will serve as an opportunity for the City to provide attendees with a brief history of Third Crossing, updates on preliminary design and business plan phases, as well as an overview of results from public survey and how those results were used. Furthermore, the open house will also allow you to discuss your ideas with and pose questions to City staff and consultants.

The Third Crossing is arguably one of the most significant and contentious projects the City of Kingston has ever had to wrangle, which is one of the reasons it’s taken over five decades to get to this stage in the project. Whether you think the construction of this transportation link is long overdue, or vehemently oppose a bridge over the Cataraqui River, this open house is golden opportunity to ensure your voice is heard. And if you happen to be undecided, it’s also a key opportunity to get informed and show your support for or against the project.

With some kids already back in the classroom and the remainder set to return next week, summer 2016 will soon be over. Although the long weekend is fast approaching, there’s still ample time to peek at that bucket list and knock off a few things. It’s time to take stock of what’s most important to us, be it excitement, rest and relaxation, completing an overdue project or spending time with the people who mean the most to us. Make your plan to make the most of these final days of summer. Tell us (with a comment below) what you’re aiming to cross off on your bucket list in the coming days.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
