Kingston teacher facing sexual assault, exploitation charges

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) has confirmed that Dave Chamberlain, a teacher at Kingston’s La Salle Secondary School, has been charged by the Kingston Police with three counts of sexual assault, and three counts of sexual exploitation.

In addition to classroom teaching, Chamberlain also ran an Emergency Response Focus Program for the LDSB.

“Student safety and well-being are our first priorities at all times, and they are responsibilities we take very seriously,” LDSB said in a statement following Kingstonist inquiries. “When something occurs that impacts student safety and well-being, it is of significant concern to us all. We are cooperating fully with the police and are also conducting our own investigation.”

Chamberlain was removed from the classroom on February 10, 2023, “immediately after the administration became aware of allegations,” LDSB said.

Citing privacy regulations and because “the board may not obstruct or compromise an ongoing police investigation,” school and board personnel were unable to provide any further information on the incidents involved, the statement said.

“This news will be difficult for students, staff, and the broader school community, and the board will provide supports as required. A support team will continue to be available to assist students and staff as long as required,” the school board said.

While Kingston Police did not provide any further statements on the charges, police encourage anyone who may be the victim of an offence that occurred in the community to come forward and and report the offence, either by completing an online report, or by calling the Kingston Police general phone number at 613-549-4660 ext. 0.
