Kingston resident saved by transport driver, charged with careless driving after fiery crash

A Kingston area resident narrowly escaped from a fiery crash and sustained only minor injuries thanks to the quick actions of the tractor trailer driver he crashed against.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said that on Friday, Jun. 21, 2024, at around 6:20 p.m., Mississauga OPP responded to a collision between a coupe and a tractor trailer in the express westbound lanes of Highway 401, east of Dixie Road.

“The tractor trailer driver pulled the driver out of the car just before it became engulfed in flames,” OPP said in a press release regarding the incident.

“Two OPP officers also assisted the driver and ensured everyone was safe,” OPP continued.

According to police, the highway was closed for over 6 hours because of the collision.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old male from Kingston, was treated for minor injuries and was charged with Careless Driving.
