Kingston resident facing multiple charges after assault on ex-partner

A local individual is facing multiple charges after Kingston Police responded to a call regarding an assault on Kingsdale Avenue over the weekend.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, police responded to the assault call at the Kingsdale Avenue residence.

According to a release from Kingston Police, the investigation revealed that early on this date, between approximately 1:30 and 2:00 a.m., the accused had become involved in an argument with their ex-partner, who was now residing with a roommate.

“During the argument, the ex-partner retreated to the confines of their roommate’s bedroom. The accused also entered the bedroom, at which time, and without provocation, they struck the roommate in the face, causing a large open wound,” police said.

“The accused then forcefully pushed their ex-partner to the ground and began punching them before fleeing from the residence.”

According to the release, the roommate attended the hospital where they required “significant medical care” to treat their injuries.

After an extensive search, police located and arrested the accused in the area of James Street and Patrick Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. on February 4, 2024. Officers transported the accused to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 23-year-old local individual was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a release order
  • Five counts of breaching probation
