Kingston receives first delivery from the Ontario Cannabis Store via Canada Post

As Canada settles into the second day of marijuana being legal in the country, Kingstonians are currently receiving their first deliveries from the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS).
The first OCS delivery by Canada Post in Kingston was made today, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at around 9:30 a.m. Packages arrived in the Kingston distribution centre from Mississauga at 8 a.m. and were out the door and being delivered shortly thereafter.
Currently, the OCS is the only legal way to purchase recreational marijuana in Ontario. Although Kingston was originally slated to be one of the first four locations where an OCS retail store would open, those plans were shelved following the provincial election, when the Ontario Conservative government decided the retail cannabis stores will be run by private businesses instead. OCS will become the provincial wholesaler of cannabis for private retail stores once the legislative framework is in place, according to the OCS. The Ontario private retail model for cannabis sales will be established by April 1, 2019, according the Government of Ontario.
For now, the only way for Kingstonians to legally purchase marijuana (up to 30g in one order) is through the OCS website, which went live at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 – but orders might take some time before arriving on Kingston doorsteps via Canada Post.
“The response to cannabis legalization has resulted in a high volume of orders. Please expect your order to be delivered within one to five business days,” OCS said.
