The Kingston community is invited to the City of Kingston’s Public Works headquarters this weekend for a family-friendly event.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the event at 701 Division Street will feature vehicles and machinery from Public Works and other City of Kingston departments, such as Solid Waste, Utilities Kingston, Engineering, Kingston Transit, and more. According to a release from the City, there will be hands-on activities and demonstrations.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community to our headquarters on May 25 and showcasing the many roles and responsibilities of Public Works in Kingston,” said Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste.

“Last year’s open house was incredibly popular, jam-packed with activities for the whole family, and this year’s event will be just as exciting. All are welcome to come and learn more about the work we and our City colleagues do!”

Across Canada and the United States, Public Works Week is observed during the third full week of May to recognize the importance of public works in society, the City noted. This year, it takes place from May 19 to 25, 2024.

According to the release, Kingston’s Public Works department oversees a variety of services and programs including winter operations, road maintenance, parks and sports field maintenance, tree planting and pruning, community cleanups, and more.

The City said that parking will be available at the Railway Street entrance to the Public Works property.
