Kingston Police warn public of recent cellphone thefts in downtown bars

According to Kingston Police, there has been a recent influx of cellphones being pick-pocketed in a number of establishments and bars in the city’s downtown core.

Police said they have received reports of people having their cellphones stolen from their pockets, as well as reports of stolen coats with cellphones in the pockets.

“In one incident, a victim at one of these establishments was approached by a man with a cellphone in his hand, asking her to enter her password into the phone to see if it was her phone,” Kingston Police said in a press release on Friday, Mar. 29, 2019.

“The victim indicated she had her phone on her person however, upon checking, she realized that it had been taken and that the male was now gone.”

Police are warning the public to keep their cellphones, coats and other valuables within sight. Police remind citizens to be aware of their surroundings, as well as those who may be in their personal space.
